THE MILL THAT SPILLS PAY FISH IT KILLS, BOGALUSA GOVERNMENT CUTS DEAL:
Monday, the Washington Parish Council approved two resolutions. A resolution passed July 8 had employed Tom W. Thornhill as a special legal counsel for the parish to pursue remedies from the August 2011 discharge at the Bogalusa paper mill, then owned by Temple-Inland.
Councilman Ken Wheat said the resolution was rescinded because legal counsel was not necessary. Parish President Richard Thomas met with International Paper and current owner of the Bogalusa mill, Wheat said the company is willing to resolve those issues. Wheat said it appears IP wants to do more than it was asked, and the resulting project will be for the community good. “They’re actually willing to make good on some problems their predecessor caused,” he said.
Wow, just how much wrong doing by their past predecessor’s do they want to cover? Just asking?
